I encouraged our cataloger, Amber Bales, to create a lightning talk for another conference (SCLEC Colloquium) the week before Code4Lib. When I saw that there weren’t enough lightning talks to fill the time slot, I decided to reuse her slides in another version of the same talk. I briefly described our critical cataloging projects, focusing on “Mrs. Husband’s Name”, a project to find catalog records that referred to women by their husbands’ names and add references to their actual names. The project was inspired by Noah Geraci’s 2019 Code4Lib talk “Programmatic Approaches to Bias in Descriptive Metadata”. My code is here and the slides are here.
